About:
Through this project project, I wanted to address the Asian American and Pacific Islander hate that has always been an issue but has recently gotten even worse. As an Asian American woman, it has been extremely difficult and terrifying to hear all the hate crimes that have been occurring. The blatant racism of associating an entire country with the COVID-19 virus, using terms such as “kung flu” or the “Wuhan virus” has caused absurd and irrational fears among Americans. At the start of the pandemic, a handful of people wouldn’t even go to Chinese restaurants because they were worried they would contract the virus. I’ve been struggling with my emotions regarding the topic so I wanted to create something that expressed my frustration and despair. Through my use of materials, I hoped to showcase how tradition and culture have been stained and tainted through historical racism and hate.
