About:

In this piece, I wanted to portray an emaciated, ethereal female figure. Her dress "sleeves" are feathers which in this context is meant to be reminiscent of angel wings. The wings are small and fragile which implies a falling from grace as well as her body being sick. She remains serene as she rests her head against the stomach of the female statue. She holds a rosary loosely in her hands but does not look at it. The rosary has the female symbol of Venus as a pendant instead of a cross. When people think of angels and rosary, it is common for those in America to associate both with Christianity. I wanted to convey how Christianity can often treat women horribly. The female figure while seemingly at peace has been broken down by the world and her religion. She takes this moment to question who she is as a woman and her own faith that is slowly destroying her.
